The food and service are really good; I totally recommend it. I'm from Venezuela, and it reminds me of Venezuelan Chinese food. Portions are generous, so you can enjoy a great family-style meal with friends and family. Additionally, they have a small area where people sing, so it's cool that the restaurant supports local artists.

Really good food and reasonable prices. Spring rolls are amazing. Service was not consistent but it was great cause we had no reservations and the wait wasn’t horrible even though the place was packed. I’ll definitely go back

I loved the Szechuan Margarita. The Pineapple fried rice was tasty. I’d only go back for the Szechuan Margarita and fried rice. The Mai Tai was watered down. I ordered a New York egg roll, cold sesame noodles, fried shrimp, and fried rice. The Cold Sesame Noodles were so pale and looked very unpleasant and unappealing. I took them home to add some flavor but I probably will just throw away. I regret spending $76 to eat here. Next time, I’d eat elsewhere and enjoy the $8 Szechuan Margarita which is the best restaurant Margarita I’ve had in a long time. This is more Cantonese/American-style Chinese food than Sichuan. Most of food I ordered lacked flavor, substance, and heat. I asked for sone chili oil and it was the blandest and mildest chili oil I’ve ever tasted. This restaurant caters to a certain crowd and demographic. Most of the patrons seemed over 50-60 years old so I presume they’d rather have mild food. Parking was easy with an attached dedicated lot. The decor was cool but it’s an old building and the bathroom reminded me of my elementary school bathroom from 1985. There were mosquitoes and gnats inside. Service was good and attentive. The kitchen staff tried to be helpful.

Not only was every dish delicious (turkey minis potstickers, Beef chow fun, queen chicken and szechaun green beans) and the szechuan marg delightfully spiced/not too sweet, but our server Andrew made it such a fun evening. Ty for sharing your birthday with US, Andrew, we had such a great time and hope to come back soon. 10/10. those szechuan green beans are final meal material.

This place is a staple in LA. Amazing Jewish Chinese food. The atmosphere is so cool. Sitting at a booth with friends. Friendly service. The NY Egg rolls are a must! Be aware of the spicy mustard lol just a little. The Orange Peel Chicken and Orange Crispy Beef are bomb! I always order Lo Mein and sometimes their dumplings. Definitely check this place out if you’re craving Chinese food

I will agree with many other reviews in that the food is good, but not great. However given it’s history, it’s been open since 1983 in the Fairfax District, and how well known it is around LA, I feel it’s important for any local to visit at least once. They have a fairly large free parking lot attached too so parking is refreshingly easy. They have a live stage show area attached to the building, and there was a punk show just starting as we were sitting down to eat, but they do a good job with noise management so we didn’t hear them. I really enjoyed the all red interior and red lanterns hanging from the ceiling because they both added to the mood and really made you feel like you had been transported to another decade. We had to wait about 10mins after arriving on time for our reservation to sit down, but our wait was very nice and did a good job. For our meal we chose a few classic starters and two of our favorite traditional Chinese entrees. To start we ordered the New York Style Eggrolls (they were pretty good although I wish the shell was crispier and there was a larger meat to veggie ratio), Cream Cheese Wontons (these were great, however pretty small and only came with 4), and the Skewered Beef (probably my favorite starter because it had the classic flavor that I am used to). For our entrees we chose Mongolian Beef with Broccoli added, and Orange Chicken. We enjoyed both and would order both again, however we both have had other better versions around town. Overall a good, historic, Chinese restaurant and venue in the Fairfax District. It also was very lively so would be a fun place to have a dinner and/or catch a show.

I've been going to Genghis Cohen since 1990 and I've always loved this place. I've never ordered anything that wasn't great. Every time I come, I always dine in the restaurant( as opposed to take out) so the food is always top tier( piping hot, huge family style portions). We ordered the Mabu beef, orange peel chicken, fried pork dumplings, combination fried rice and beef lo mein( the Cracker Jack shrimp and duck are out of control as well. We didn't order it this time but I've had it before.) As far as cocktails go, we definitely had a handful of the Szechuan margaritas. Cocktails are always great( balanced and strong) service was amazing. The vibe/ ambience is unmatched( you'll definitely want to take photos for your social media). If you're looking for authentic New York style Chinese with a dope vibe, this is your spot.

This is my second bad review of this establishment. I just drove all the way from Calabasas to pick my food up. My previous experience was also terrible and I had to leave a previous bad review and only tried this place again hoping maybe someone just had a bad day last time. This restaurant is literally fraud, the food looks nothing like the photos, not only does it look entirely different it tastes bad. The one good thing it had going for itself was the beef skewers. I ordered beef skewers look what they gave me lol. In what world?? I asked and offered to pay for additional duck sauce I got all the way home and there was only one tiny plastic container. I promise you, on everything I love, only eat here if you just want to give your money away because you are bored because you will get all the way home and have to order from someone else anyway. What kind of meat even is this and where is the skewer??? Worst $100 I ever spent.
